Perry Street Apartment
new york nY

The transformation of this small dark Greenwich Village NYC apartment hinged around opening up the clogged kitchen. We removed the wall that divided the kitchen from the living room and replaced it with an open stool counter.  This deep counter forms the second side to the galley kitchen.  By retaining the two sided kitchen, no counter space was lost by opening up to the living room and has an additional advantage of providing a new diagonal view from the entry hall through the kitchen, living room and bedroom to the Bleeker Street windows.

Through the reorganization of a few walls, the resizing of a few openings, and introducing new finishes and a white and light gray color pallet throughout the apartment, the design was able to achieve a light and airy space, a breath of fresh air despite being only 600 square feet.  To eliminate the darkening of the windows caused by window air conditioners, we added fully integrated air-conditioning hidden above cabinets and closets avoiding ductwork to box in the already tight ceiling heights.
